DC's greatest heroes, including Supergirl, are trading their usual costumes for swimsuits in a new series of fun variant covers that gives the superheroes their own beach-ready outfits. In a new DC Comics variant cover from Artgerm, Kara Zor-El stars in a new cover, wearing a swimsuit with the iconic S logo on it, as Superman strikes a pose in the background as she takes a selfie as the cousins enjoy a fun time out on the beach.

DC Comics revealed a new set of variant covers coming in August that features some of its greatest heroes ditching their usual costumes as they head to the beach. The new swimsuit covers, which are reminiscent back to the days when Wizard Magazine and Marvel Comics ran their own superhero swimsuit specials, focus on the DC heroes. Batman trades in his Batsuit for a cowl and a speedo, Harley Quinn turns to a life of piracy, and in perhaps the most fun cover, Supergirl gets her own super-swimsuit alongside Superman.

In a series of new variant covers coming out in August, DC Comics revealed ten new swimsuit cover arts. In a piece from Stanley "Artgerm" Lau that will appear on Action Comics #1046, Supergirl can be seen in her summer attire, with a super-themed swimsuit top (with the House of El's iconic logo) with red lace on the bottom and around her arms (kind of like a cape). Kara is taking a selfie in the cover art, as Superman can be seen behind her, unintentionally photobombing the image as he shows off his muscles while inadvertently striking a pose in the water.

Supergirl Swimsuit Costume DC Comics

Artgerm has illustrated some incredible Supergirl, and DC Comics covers before, but the new swimsuit cover starring Kara Zor-El and Superman might be his most fun piece yet. The image captures the two superheroes having some much-needed fun on the beach, showing their more human side, as they're not dealing with supervillains and world-ending threats. Instead, they're kicking back, enjoying themselves at the beach. It's a sillier side of superheroes readers don't often see. Plus, the costume design looks so great that it would make for an excellent real-life swimsuit.

Sure, swimsuit covers might seem a bit taboo, but in this case, the DC Comics covers aren't solely about sexualizing or showing off the muscles of its heroes like many swimsuit specials have in the past—although, some covers are spicier than others (like Nightwing's). Despite the spiciness, they're just as much about showcasing the DC heroes having some fun on an off-day from super-heroics as highlighting their stunning physiques. If anything, Supergirl's fun swimsuit cover from DC Comics proves she deserves some time to let loose every now and again. The swimsuit variant covers come out in August.
