Animated superhero shows are immensely popular and present a welcome change for those fans who are disappointed by the live-action movies, too young to watch them, or have children they need to entertain. These shows are usually family-friendly, funny, and full of great characters. Superman: The Animated Series which ran between 1996 and 2000 is no exception.
Even though it's over 20 years old, it's still a must-watch for even today for all fans of Superman who enjoy the animated versions of his adventures. Since the show has been off the air for a while, it's easy to forget how many actors voiced a character on the show. Let's find out which guest stars entered the world of Superman and his friends and enemies.
Malcolm McDowell
Malcolm McDowell is undoubtedly one of the most talented characters in his long career. He once again became a villain in the series when he voiced Superman's enemy Metallo, a source of a lot of trouble and headaches for Superman. McDowell voiced the part for six episodes in total.
Kevin Conroy
Kevin Conroy remains the most iconic Crisis on Infinite Earths. So it also makes sense that he briefly appeared as Batman in this TV show, although only for five episodes, which isn't a lot, considering what good friends Superman and Batman are in the comics.
Nicholle Tom
Probably best known for her work in the television show Supergirl - blonde hair, blue eyes, lovely smile - so it's no wonder that it was Supergirl whom Tom voiced in Superman: The Animated Series. The superheroine also known as Kara Danvers who's Superman's cousin appeared in five episodes of the show.
Michael Dorn
Michael Dorn's most famous role of the Klingon Lieutenant Worf in Star Trek had his face greatly changed by make-up - so much, in fact, that some people might have problems recognizing him in his more civil roles, at least at first.
But what remains the same is Dorn's characteristic deep voice that's easy to once one hears it. Dorn used it for the best when he appeared as Kalibak, John Henry Irons, and Steel in the show for five episodes.
James Marsden
James Marsden will no doubt be a very familiar name to all fans of superhero X-Men film franchise. Marsden switched comic book universes in his career and also worked with DC when he voiced the part of teenager Clark Kent in the TV show before Tim Daly took on the part as an adult Clark Kent/Superman.
Mark Hamill
Forever known as Luke Skywalker in Joker remains one of the best and many fans prefer his portrayal of the iconic villain over any other. So when the time came for the Joker to appear in Superman: The Animated Series as well, Hamill ed the cast briefly for three episodes.
Ron Perlman
Just like other names on this list, Ron Perlman's voice will no doubt be familiar even to those who don't know his face. He was, for example, very well masked when he portrayed Hellboy who's also a comic-book hero, created by Mike Mignola.
However, Perlman's filmography is much, much richer, and it also happens to include a three-episode presence in the show when he portrayed Jax-Ur.
Arleen Sorkin
If it wasn't for Arleen Sorkin, there might not have been any Batman: The Animated Series and only later came into the comics as well. Just like Conroy and Hamill, Sorkin also reprised her iconic part in Superman: The Animated Series and she appeared for three episodes as Harley.
Jennifer Jason Leigh
Jennifer Jason Leigh has a reputation primarily as a film actress nowadays, she starred in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight (2015), for example, but that wasn't always the case. She's been consistently doing TV work throughout her whole career, both in animated and live-action shows. However, she wasn't as well-known as she is today in the late 90s and appeared in a single episode as a character named Cetea.
Thomas F. Wilson
Thomas F. Wilson's name might not immediately ring a bell for some, but when somebody adds Legends of Tomorrow, where he played Nate's dad. And as for his role in Superman: The Animated Series, he voiced a character named Joey in a single episode.
