Avengers: Endgame, so this universe is finally moving forward with its highly-anticipated Phase 4. This new wave of content will cover TV shows and movies and will introduce a bunch of new characters, but it will also continue the stories of previously introduced heroes.

Although most of the original Avengers are now retired, there’s one that will return for his fourth solo movie, which will bring a lot of changes to the MCU: Thor. After a rough start with Thor: Love and Thunder, it will not only reunite viewers with the Asgardian Avenger but also with Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who hasn’t been seen in the MCU since Thor: The Dark World. This new adventure will adapt elements from the Mighty Thor comic book storyline, meaning it will see Jane Foster taking on that mantle and thus wielding Mjolnir.

Thor’s signature weapon hasn’t had the smoothest history in the MCU, as it was destroyed by Hela in Thor: Ragnarok and so Thor built Stormbreaker with the help of Eitri. Thor was able to retrieve Mjolnir from the past during the time heist in Avengers: Endgame, shared it with Captain America during the battle of Earth, and was taken back to Asgard by Steve Rogers. Thor will get his hammer back in Thor: Love and Thunder, and if he's still worthy of it, the question of how it will end up in Jane Foster’s hands remains – and here’s every theory on how Jane will become worthy of Mjolnir in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Jane Foster Was Always Worthy Of Mjolnir

Jane Foster made her MCU debut in Thor, where she, alongside Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård) and Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings), found the God of Thunder right after he was exiled from Asgard and deemed unworthy of Mjolnir by Odin. Jane helped Thor in his mission to get Mjolnir back and return to Asgard, and she was sent to a safe location during the Chitauri invasion. Jane returned in Thor: The Dark World, where she became the host of the Aether, and that was the last time viewers saw her. So far, there haven’t been any red flags that could point at Jane Foster not being worthy of Mjolnir, as she helped Thor even though he was a complete stranger (and even though Selvig thought he could be dangerous), she cooperated with the rest when she was taken over by the Aether and was key in defeating Malekith in The Dark World, so with all that in mind, she could have always been worthy of it but she never knew until the events of Thor: Love and Thunder.

However, some fans have pointed out that who determines Avengers: Age of Ultron and fully in Avengers: Endgame because there was a lot more confidence and a drive to save the world that made Steve realize he truly is worthy of using Mjolnir. Jane being worthy of Mjolnir, then, could depend on how she sees herself after all this time.

How Jane Foster Could Have Become Worthy

If Jane Foster hasn’t always been worthy of Mjolnir, there are still ways she can be. As mentioned above, it’s possible that this worthiness isn’t measured with a specific scale nor does the person has to meet certain requirements, and it’s all about the person’s perception of themselves. Thor: Love and Thunder will have to explain what Jane has been doing since The Dark World, and depending on that will be if she now believes herself to be worthy or not. Of course, there are other ways she can become worthy that connect with her history in the MCU, such as her bonding with the Aether. This dangerous red liquid turned out to be the Reality Stone, but unlike Malekith and Thanos, Jane had no intentions of using the Aether for anything and absorbed it after making with it out of mere curiosity. This could be enough to make her worthy of Mjolnir, as she proved that even though she held incredible power thanks to the Aether, she wasn’t willing to use it at all.
