I thought it was...fine. Flawed and sometimes a little lazy, but it got better as the season went on and that finale was killer.
That said, I haven't seen the second season yet. My former employer was owned by Paramount, and when they sold us, I lost access to my Paramount+ .

I agree with much of this. I have long been wary of putting Gustin in the movies, becuase I think there's value to a clean break. Still, he was incredibly likable in the role and he is undoubtedly talented.
The issue becomes where you draw the line. If Grant were to be The Flash, I think you're pretty much compelled to bring back Candice Patton as Iris. Okay, does that mean we're definitely casting Jesse L. Martin? Cool. What about Panabaker? etc. etc. The fully-realized DC Universe of the Arrowverse offers a lot of compelling casting options, but to what extend would Gunn feel tied to those actors if he brought in Grant?

"Superman's Father Doesn't Need to be a Hero In Order to Create One" is a key here. I think the heroism of everyday people is something that Superman has traditionally done a great job of spotlighting.
