Rick and Morty has become known in part for its many movie parodies. The science fiction TV show has taken its cues from a wide range of popular culture and movies have of course inspired the show most of all.
In the past there's been references to franchises like Rick and Morty could parody next.
The Harry Potter Franchise
The series has stepped into the fantasy genre before, riffing off of table top games like Dungeons and Dragons. However, the show hasn't dealt with a strange magical school like Hogwarts.
The chances are there's a space version of the wizarding school with many dangerous secrets lurking within its halls. The show is sure to make a joke about how the students are constantly in danger!
Groundhog Day (1993)
The time loop narrative has been used so many times in a variety of different genres. Recently it has even been applied to Russian Doll which uses the concept in a unique manner.
Although Rick and Morty have a time travel rule, they have already broken it this season. The time loop arc would actually be quite interesting, perhaps with Morty and Rick getting separated in their own loops.
The Mission Impossible Franchise
It's shocking there hasn't been some kind of spy mission based on the Tom Cruise blockbuster franchise. It's almost certain that Rick won't be performing his own stunts for that parody however.
With heist movies having recently been a highlight, this feels like the next logical step. The franchise manages to include ridiculous reveals, over the top action and enough spy gadgets for Morty to get excited about.
Forrest Gump (1994)
It would be pretty fun to see Rick interact with various famous events in history, although he would certainly make things a lot worse than better. This movie could easily be parodied on the show.
Rick and Morty have already interacted with one President and a whole episode about Rick's long life and his various adventures could reveal just how many big events he's actually been a part of.
The Deadpool Franchise
The show is known for breaking the fourth wall and this merc with a mouth certainly knows a thing or two about talking to the audience. If Rick was to become any superhero it would of course be Deadpool.
While the show can't actually include the character, it would be easy to replicate the hero in their own form, much like they did with the team of misfits, the Guardians of the Galaxy.
The Godfather Franchise
One of the greatest mobster movies of all time is sure to be parodied by this science fiction show at some point. The duo must have come across an intergalactic crime lord before.
There's potentially plenty of aliens that could fill in the role of the Godfather, trying to bring some sort of control and order to the galaxy. It would a unique crossover of genres.
Zodiac (2007)
Murder mysteries are still all the rage, but the quest to find the Zodiac killer has produced a film that has become one of the best known thrillers out there.
The structure and narrative of this movie and indeed the genre in general could translate very well to the show. Although a murder mystery sometimes needs time to really get going, perhaps it could incorporate a search for evil Morty.
The Star Wars Franchise
Just by sharing the genre, the show essentially references the galaxy far far away every episode. But, there's never been a straight up parody of the franchise before.
Perhaps with laser swords, some kind of magical force, or even a cantina full of scum and villainy, there's plenty of ways that Rick and Morty could nod to the world famous space opera.
The Jumanji Franchise
There's actually be an episode that very briefly included the adventure genre, although this was more of a spoof of Jumanji.
There's something there about getting sucked into an old board game though and having to fight out of it, back into the real world. There's been virtual reality games that feel just as real, but getting sucked into an old style board game could be a good adventure for Summer and Morty.
The Men In Black Franchise
The Run the Jewels music video featuring the grandson/grandad duo actually spoofed on these alien hunting spies. But there hasn't been an episode that has played on this same aesthetic yet.
It would be great to see an episode spoof this franchise in some way and of course it has to end with the Earth being in a marble or some other crazy assumption of our actual reality; which also spins off of another Rick and Morty episode.
